Dear Tippit Family Members,
Welcome to the new school year! A fun and easy way to feel like a connected member of the Tippit family is to join
the PTA and get involved in our mission to be “a powerful voice for all children, a relevant resource for families and
communities, and a strong advocate for the education and well-being of every child”. PTA has another great year in
store, so please become a member today by following the steps below. We are nothing without your support.
You are also invited to get involved at Tippit through the PTA’s Volunteer Program. Tippit PTA supports our
wonderful school in a variety of ways, and there are a multitude of opportunities to lend a hand. Even with just a few
minutes to spare now and then, you can make a difference! Click here to view the Volunteer Form.
Here’s to a great new year at Tippit!
GET “BACK to BASICS” – IT’S MEMBERSHIP TIME!
Getting Back to Basics is this year’s theme for PTA. This is a great message in a day when we are making things
so complicated for ourselves! What a great reminder to slow down and enjoy life. The membership team for Tippit
has been busy and we need you to make our work successful. We have made the process so easy that all you
need to do is:
1) fill in the information side of the envelope sent home with all students
2) insert a check for $5 per member written to TMS/PTA,
3) seal it, and
4) send it with your student to his/her second period teacher by Friday, September 11, 2009
We will do all the rest! By October 15, you will be a card carrying member of PTA. You will also be able to receive
great discounts from businesses including Dell, Barnes&Noble.com, Schlitterbahn, Seaworld and more, just for
being a member of Texas’ largest child advocacy group!
Parental involvement is still a crucial component in your child’s education. You can stay involved and be an
advocate for all children by becoming a member of Tippit PTA. The class with the most membership participation in
each grade level will receive coupons for a delicious cafeteria cookie! So, Get Back to Basics with us and Join PTA!
If you have any questions about Tippit PTA Membership, please contact Membership Chairperson Michelle Beach
at Michelle.Beach@usi.biz or 819-9551.
GEORGETOWN ISD POLICY ON BACKGROUND CHECKS
In order to ensure the safety of our students, Georgetown Independent School District requires all volunteers to
complete an ANNUAL criminal history background check. GISD is authorized by state law to obtain criminal
history record information on individuals who intend to serve as volunteers for the district (Texas Education
Code 22.083).
The Volunteer Background Check Form may be completed online. If you have access to a computer, go to
www.georgetownisd.org, click on Community and then Volunteering. A link to the background check is at
the bottom of that page. If you do not have a computer, feel free to come to school to use one of Tippit’s! Call
the Tippit Front Office at 943-5040 for details and answers to any questions regarding this requirement.
The district requires ALL volunteers to have a background check each year, so please be sure to do it again
even if you have done it in previous years. Thanks for doing this early in the year!
