Tippit MS PTA

Every Child. One Voice.
Did You Know…

Two mothers --Alice McLellan Birney and Phoebe Apperson Hearst, founded the PTA. In a time when social activism was scorned and women did not have the vote, they moved to form an organization of mothers in an effort to eliminate the threats that endangered the children of our nation In 1897, they called for action and created the National Congress of Mothers. It received vast approval within its first
year as over 2,000 people --mothers, fathers, teachers, laborers and legislators --joined its ranks and committed themselves to work for children on a local and national level.

PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy organization in the United States today. It is credited with lobbying for establishing kindergarten
in public schools, hot lunch programs, juvenile justice and child-labor laws, school bus safety and TV ratings efforts, just to name a few!

Tippit’s PTA is involved in the school in many ways. For example, it coordinates volunteers for special events and teacher support. It organizes
dances, the Turkey Trot, Family Fun Night and the 8th Grade End-of-the-Year Celebration. The PTA helps pay for field trips and runs our school store. The Hospitality Committee provides monthly appreciation lunches for our teachers and staff. Tippit’s PTA also works to enhance our campus.

There are over 6.5 million PTA members nationwide. Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and even neighbors can be PTA members. Please
consider becoming a member today. Just fill a PTA membership envelope located in the office anytime throughout the year. We encourage everyone to join by October 1st for our state Membership contest, but you can join ANYTIME!
